What is LANAP surgery?

The LANAP protocol is an FDA-cleared laser treatment for gum disease. This comprehensive approach uses the latest technology in dentistry to provide you with virtually painless gum disease treatment.

The LANAP protocol uses an Nd:YAG pulsed laser to remove only the diseased gum tissue without damaging any of the healthy tissue surrounding it. 

This advanced technology maintains tissue volume around your teeth, minimizes discomfort, and closes the periodontal pocket wound so healing can take place.

Effectively controlling periodontal disease makes it possible to save and restore teeth that would otherwise have to be extracted.

What does LANAP surgery entail?

First, the team at Advanced Dentistry of Philadelphia uses a perio probe to indicate the excessive pocket depth in your diseased gum. They remove bacteria and diseased tissue with the laser, eliminating the need for cutting and stitching your gums.

Then, they use an ultrasonic scaler and specialized instruments to remove tartar from the root surface. The laser finishes cleaning the pocket and seals it so germs can’t enter. This allows healing to occur.

  • Medicinal taste from the prescription mouth rinse

To maximize your recovery, reduce your physical activity for several hours after the procedure. Don’t rinse your mouth on the day of treatment, and avoid brushing or flossing the area for 10-14 days.
